Trauma Informed Care

Program Description: This virtual educational activity will provide nurses, social workers, law enforcement, and emergency healthcare professionals an introduction to trauma informed care, improving their knowledge and understanding of the impact of emotional and psychological trauma on stress and behavior. Family Service of Rhode Island will provide an overview of what trauma is and the negative effects trauma has on symptoms and behaviors, empowering people to begin assessing the needs of their community and developing champions to spread this information.

Who Should Attend: Nurses, Social Workers, Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical Services, CCRI Allied and Rehab Health Students, Faculty, Alumni, and Clinical Instructors.

Learning Objectives and Outcomes: At the conclusion of this activity, participants should:

  • Have increased knowledge of how emotional and psychological trauma can impact stress, symptoms, and behavior.
  • Be able to provide more sensitive, patient-centered care to patients and members of the community.

Credit Designation:

Nurses: This nursing continuing professional development activity was approved by Community College of Rhode Island for 2 Nursing Contact Hours. Community College of Rhode Island is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Northeast Multistate Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Social Workers: This program is approved by the National Association of Social Workers for 2 continuing education contact hours

Other Healthcare Professionals: Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance. Check with your state licensing board to verify.
