Understanding HPV and Its Impact

HPV Impact

Program Description: This educational activity will provide nurses, medical professionals, and dental professionals the opportunity to gain knowledge of the epidemiology of HPV infections and HPV-related cancers, learn about the HPV vaccine and cancer prevention strategies, and signs and symptoms of both oropharyngeal and cervical cancers. Attendees will also learn strategies to help engage patients in HPV prevention and will hear first-hand from a cancer survivor how HPV-related cancer impacts both individuals and their families.

Who Should Attend: Nurses, Dental Professionals, Medical Professionals, CCRI Allied and Rehab Health Students, Faculty, Alumni, and Clinical Instructors.

Learning Objectives and Outcomes: As a result of this activity, the learner will:

  • gain knowledge of current epidemiology of HPV infections and HPV-related cancers.
  • Recognize the significant personal impact HPV-related cancer has on individuals and their families.
  • Be better prepared to engage patients in HPV prevention strategies.

Credit Designation:

Nurses: This nursing continuing professional development activity was approved by Community College of Rhode Island for 2 Nursing Contact Hours. Community College of Rhode Island is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the Northeast Multistate Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Dental Professionals: This program qualifies for credit through the Rhode Island Dental Association and has been approved for 2.0 hours.
