Art Transfer
Transfer Information
Planning to continue your studies after CCRI? Art, Art History & Design students have several transfer pathways depending on the type of school, degree, and creative direction they want to pursue. Starting transfer planning early can help you choose courses wisely and make the most of your time at CCRI.
Tools for Planning Your Transfer
Understanding a few common transfer terms and resources can make the process easier.
Joint Admissions Agreement (JAA)
A Joint Admissions Agreement allows eligible CCRI students to transfer into participating Rhode Island public universities through a clearly defined pathway.
Articulation Agreement
An articulation agreement explains how CCRI courses apply toward a specific four-year degree program.
Transferology
Transferology helps students explore how CCRI courses may transfer to other colleges and universities.

Rhode Island College remains an affordable Rhode Island option, but art transfer requires additional planning.
Important to know:
Students seeking studio art credit must complete a portfolio review.
Before transferring:
Expect to submit 10–15 projects demonstrating course outcomes for review.
RI students also transfer successfully to additional art schools and universities depending on their goals, portfolio strength, location preferences, and degree interests. While these schools may not currently have the same formal transfer structure as some of our primary pathways, they remain strong possibilities worth exploring early.
Schools students often consider:
Specialized Art & Design Schools
- Rhode Island School of Design
- Massachusetts College of Art and Design
- Savannah College of Art and Design
- Maine College of Art & Design
- Montserrat College of Art
Universities with Strong Art Programs
Important to know:
Transfer requirements vary widely by school. Portfolio expectations, course equivalencies, and admission timelines should be reviewed carefully before applying.
Best next step:
Students considering specialized art schools should begin discussing portfolio preparation early, especially if applying to highly selective programs.
