Court Interpreter
The Court Interpreter training course will prepare students who are already fluent in both English and Spanish to take and pass the National Center for State Courts certification exam. In this course students will perfect their knowledge of grammar and idioms, learn legal terminology, and learn techniques for sight, consecutive, and simultaneous translation. Following the conclusion of the course students will take the written first part of the certification exam in April 2023. Once certified students would be qualified to work as a court interpreter in the Rhode Island court system and in private legal matters.
This first cohort will focus only on Spanish/English translation, with the possibility of other languages added in the future.
To be eligible, students must be a Rhode Island resident, have a high school diploma or GED. Exposure to the legal field is preferred but not required.
*All participants will need to have access to a computer, webcam, and internet – equipment will not be provided.
