CCRI offering two free Securities Industry Essentials training programs in January

Registration is still available for the Community College of Rhode Island’s Division of Workforce Partnerships Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) training program, which offers two cohorts for both in-person and virtual learning beginning in mid-January. Training is sponsored by Real Jobs Rhode Island.

SIE training is for those who want to work and begin careers within the financial securities industry. The training course and certification exam covers investment vehicles such as equity and debt securities, alternative investments, investment strategies, basic economic theory, and industry rules and regulations.

SIE training runs for 60 hours and employment assistance is included with the program. Participants also receive a $1,000 stipend for successful program completion. The deadline to register for both cohorts is Thursday, January 6. Program dates, times, and locations are as follows:

  • Virtual synchronous cohort*
    January 19–April 27
    Mondays and Wednesdays, 4­–6:30 pm
    *Classes are held virtually in real time
  • Hybrid cohort (virtual and in-person)
    January 18–April 28
    Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30–8 pm

The curriculum covered in the course is intended to provide the requisite knowledge and a better understanding of the topics tested on the national SIE examination, which all participants must take upon completing the training course. A GED or high school diploma is required, and participants must be Rhode Island residents.
