Leveraging Fair Chance Hiring for a More Inclusive Rhode Island Workforce
The Building Bridges: Fair Chance Hiring Summit will take place from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Community College of Rhode Island’s Knight Campus, Warwick, RI on Friday, October 4, 2024.
What to Expect at the Fair Chance Summit
Fair Chance Hiring - or the practice of providing meaningful work opportunities for Rhode Islanders who are justice-impacted - is a critical function of modern businesses and the future of work. In the US, up to 77 million working-age Americans have a criminal record and face a crippling amount of barriers to employment - both legal and social - that have resulted in a 27% unemployment rate amongst this population. Employers invested in fair chance hiring are working to change that staggering statistic.
This fall, CCRI will convene employers, community-based organizations (CBOs), training partners, and key stakeholders for a half-day Summit. This event aims to bridge gaps between hiring initiatives, enhance understanding of the reentry experience, and facilitate practical skills development. At the Summit, you can expect to:
- Network with fellow leaders in the fair chance hiring ecosystem in Rhode Island.
- Find opportunities for collaboration and learning among CCRI’s robust employer and partner network.
- Learn about innovative pre-release training programs inside the Adult Correctional Institution (ACI) in Cranston, RI, that prepare candidates for careers in advanced manufacturing and the trades.
- Walk in the shoes of someone recently released by participating in the Reentry Simulation.
- Take advantage of our skills development workshops to advance your practice, no matter where your business is on its fair chance hiring journey.
- Tap into a pool of talent providers to access top talent with records.
