Prepare for a Career in Law Enforcement

The Fit2Serve Pathway to Policing Program prepares Rhode Island residents for entry into careers in law enforcement through structured physical training, skills development, and career preparation. Participants receive hands-on instruction in physical fitness, defensive tactics, swim readiness, firearms safety, and interview preparation while building the discipline and resilience needed for a successful career in public safety.

Program Overview

The Fit2Serve Pathway to Policing Program is a comprehensive training initiative offered through the Community College of Rhode Island’s Division of Workforce Partnerships in collaboration with Fit2Serve.

This cohort-based program prepares individuals for the physical, technical, and professional demands required to pursue careers in law enforcement and public safety.

Over the course of the program, participants receive structured training designed to improve physical readiness, develop defensive and tactical skills, strengthen communication and interview abilities, and build foundational knowledge of the law enforcement profession.

Participants also receive mentorship opportunities with law enforcement professionals and guidance through the recruitment and hiring process.

The program combines classroom instruction, physical training, practical exercises, and career preparation to support participants as they pursue careers serving their communities.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Fit2Serve Pathway to Policing Program, participants will be able to:

Demonstrate Physical Readiness for Law Enforcement Training

  • Improve strength, endurance, and conditioning necessary to pass the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy Physical Agility Test

Apply Foundational Defensive Tactics

  • Demonstrate basic grappling, control techniques, and situational defensive tactics used in law enforcement training

Demonstrate Water Safety and Swim Proficiency

  • Perform swim techniques and water survival skills required for academy-level swim testing

Demonstrate Safe Firearms Handling

  • Apply foundational firearms safety practices and marksmanship techniques under professional supervision

Prepare for the Law Enforcement Hiring Process

  • Demonstrate professional communication skills and interview readiness for law enforcement recruitment

Apply Nutrition and Wellness Strategies

  • Utilize basic performance nutrition principles to support physical training, recovery, and long-term health

When: May 4 – June 26, 2026

Monday – Friday 10:00 am – 12:00pm (CCRI Flanagan Campus)
4x Tuesdays 6:00 – 9:00 pm (Elite Indoor Gun Range in South Kingstown)
