Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity
Affirmative Action
CCRI's Commitment
The Community College of Rhode Island is committed to affirmative action and fair employment. In our classrooms, offices and other workplaces, we recognize the value of diversity and inclusivity.
Each year the Office of Institutional Equity prepares and maintains an Affirmative Action Plan (AAP) in accordance with federal regulations. The process of completing this plan gives us an opportunity to review our institutional policies and shine light onto areas where we have room for improvement in making our commitment to equity and diversity come alive.
Equal Opportunity & Affirmative Action Program
The Office of Institutional Equity is responsible for preparing the College's annual affirmative action plan, and for implementing and monitoring the Equal Opportunity Policy. This Policy guides our institutional commitment to a diverse and inclusive workforce, and prohibits discrimination in all employment transactions. Our primary role is to:
- Develop and implement CCRI's affirmative action programs
- Conduct federally mandated workforce analysis
- Provide consultation services, education and training
- Serve as liaison between CCRI and the federal and state agencies in areas of contract compliance, reporting and regulatory matters.
Affirmative Action Plans (AAP)
In addition to complying with federal regulations, the annual Affirmative Action Plan (AAP) for CCRI defines an affirmative action program as a management tool. The plan includes those policies, practices and procedures that we implement to ensure equal employment opportunity. The process for developing the plan allows us to engage in self-analysis for the purpose of discovering any barriers to equal employment opportunity. The plan serves as a guide in monitoring progress and developing operational processes to enhance equal opportunity in all sectors of employment at CCRI.
Equal Opportunity / Non-Discrimination Statement
The Community College of Rhode Island prohibits discrimination, including harassment and retaliation, on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, gender, gender identity or expression, religion, disability, age, sexual orientation, genetic information, marital status, citizenship status or status as a special disabled veteran, recently separated veteran, Vietnam era veteran, or any other veteran who served on active duty during a war or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized. CCRI also prohibits all forms of sexual harassment and sexual violence.
