CCRI has partnered with Mentor Collective, a student mentorship program, to support
and enhance the student experience here at CCRI. Incoming first-year students are
paired with peer mentors, while students on track to complete their degree-granting
program are connected with an alum or industry professional for a career mentoring
opportunity.
Overview
This program links first-year students to a current student who is willing to help
them navigate CCRI by encouraging them to seek out resources, such as the tutoring
center, and building relationships with other students, by engaging with student groups.
In turn, mentors build their leadership skills, share their experiences and help new
students feel welcome.
How it Works
- To get started, students and mentors register and complete an online questionnaire
indicating their interests and experiences. The more information that is entered,
the better the odds of mentees and mentors with similar backgrounds being matched.
- Once matched, mentors and mentees will receive an SMS test message introducing them
and then they can begin communicating. Mentors and mentees both decide how often they want to connect.
- Students can use the platform’s discussion guides and goal-setting activities to help
spark meaningful conversations with their counterparts. Topics range from time management
and work-life balance to networking and job-seeking advice.
What do Mentors and Mentees Discuss?
Examples of conversation topics include:
- How can I get involved on campus?
- How do I balance the demands of school, responsibilities, and families/friends?
- How can I set myself up for academic, social, and career success?
- How do I make connections with peers and professional contacts?
