Update on 2024-2025 Financial Aid Awards

As many of you are aware the Department of Education has completely revamped the FAFSA for the 2024-2025 aid year. Unfortunately, there have been significant nationwide delays and implementation issues that are affecting all colleges, not only CCRI. We share the frustration that we know many of you are feeling! The Financial Aid Office is working to finalize financial aid awards for Fall 2024 and here are a few suggestions of things that you can do to partner with us.

What Can You Do To Help?

There are a few things that you can do to help:

  1. Complete your FAFSA – if you have not yet completed the 2024-2025 FAFSA, please do that as soon as possible online at https://studentaid.gov/.
    • Sign up for a workshop here!
  2. After your FAFSA is processed (processing will begin in March) you will receive an email with instructions on how to view your FAFSA Submission Summary. If the FAFSA was processed successfully you will receive a Student Aid Index (SAI) on your FAFSA Submission Summary.
    • If there is no SAI – you should review your FAFSA Submission Summary and log into your FAFSA and make any necessary corrections.
    • If there is an SAI – you should review your FAFSA Submission Summary for any errors and check if your FAFSA was selected for verification.
    • You may view MyCCRI to see if your FAFSA has been received by CCRI.  It generally takes 3-4 business days between the submission and receipt by the college.
    • If your FAFSA is selected for verification or if further information is required, you should monitor your student email and MyCCRI for requested documents and submit them to the Financial Aid Office as soon as possible. Missing items will be displayed with a “Red Flag” with a link to the form that needs to be uploaded.
  3. Students may check their FAFSA status by logging into their FAFSA, navigating to the “My Activity” area, then viewing their application status.
    • Draft: Your section of the FAFSA form is incomplete.
    • In Progress: You provided your consent, approval, and signature to your section of the FAFSA form, but the FAFSA form has not been submitted yet.
    • In Review: You have submitted your form and your application is still processing.
    • Processed: Your application was processed successfully. No further action is needed.
    • Action Required: Your application requires further action from you or your contributor(s).
  4. Students who are 2024 high school graduates and expecting the Rhode Island Promise, please be sure to check the “RI Promise Checklist” in MyCCRI to see what items are needed to finalize your receipt of free college, including filing the FAFSA, completing the Attestation form, registering as a full time student for fall 2024 and submitting official high school transcripts upon graduation.

Estimated Timeline

Following is an estimated timeline. Please know that we may need to adjust this timeline as we receive information from the Department of Education and outside vendors:

March 15:

  • The Department of Education began sending FAFSAs in batches to colleges/universities.

March 15-May 31:

  • Our office will update our system so that we can load FAFSAs and award financial aid. We will run tests to make sure that all the new rules are working so that we can offer accurate financial aid offers.

June 1:

  • Our office anticipates that we will begin sending out financial aid offers. Offers will continue to be issued in June and July with the goal of having offers to students before their tuition bills are due in August. Students will receive an email notification to their student email when their offer is ready to be viewed on MyCCRI.

Please contact financial aid at 401-825-2468, text us at 401-217-2770 or send an email to [email protected] if you have any questions.

We thank you for your patience during this time as we work diligently to try to award our new/returning students in a timely manner!

Sincerely,
CCRI Financial Aid Office
