CCRI earns designation as Military Friendly School for second year in a row
March 9, 2023
The Community College of Rhode Island has been named a 2023-24 Military Friendly®
School for the second year in a row by VIQTORY, a data-driven military company that
helps connect the military community to civilian employment.
Military Friendly® is the standard that measures an organization’s commitment, effort,
and success in creating sustainable and meaningful benefit for the military community.
The Military Friendly® ratings program began in 2003 as an advocacy vehicle to encourage
civilian organizations to invest in programs to recruit, retain, and advance veterans
as employees, entrepreneurs, and students.
Each year, VIQTORY chooses companies and schools for its Military Friendly® designations
through a survey that sources public, proprietary, and personal data. CCRI earned
a Silver Level designation for 2023-24. The full list of 2023-24 Military Friendly®
Schools is available online.
Through its Veteran Services Office, CCRI serves countless student veterans by providing
information on available resources and programs within the college community – everything
from how to enroll for classes, applying for benefits, and advising and counseling
services.
In 2010, the college established the Student Veterans Organization (SVO), a chapter
of the Student Veterans of America (SVA), which includes a network of more than 1500
on-campus chapters. CCRI’s SVO encourages its student veterans to actively participate
in fundraisers and social events to build a sense of community and donate to various
charities.
With a tradition as a Military Friendly® school CCRI continues to assist student veterans
in earning postsecondary credentials, adjusting to civilian life, and earning high-paying
jobs in high-demand fields.
