Industrial Training & Assessment Center Program
The Industrial Training & Assessment Centers (ITAC) Program, formally known as the Industrial Assessment Center (IAC) Program, administrated out of the Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains of the DOE, advances a clean energy and manufacturing workforce that represents the diversity of America, and a reinvigorated manufacturing base prepared to lead the global clean energy transition. The program supports:
- Energy assessments
- Facility energy and smart manufacturing improvements
- Workforce development, recruitment, and training
ITACs deploy programs and resources for small- to medium-sized manufacturers (SMM), universities and career institutions, and workers and students seeking hiring and training opportunities. ITACs typically identify more than $130,000 in potential annual savings opportunities for every manufacturer assessed, nearly $50,000 of which is implemented during the first year following the assessment. Over 20,000 ITAC assessments have been conducted since 1976.
Historically, ITACs have been operated out of four-year universities. There are currently 37 ITACs operated out of universities. The ITAC program was expanded to community colleges, union training programs, and trade schools through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The RI-ITAC at CCRI was one of the 17 ITACs founded through ITAC Expansion Program.
