11.15.18

Warwick, R.I. –November 15, 2018: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team traveled to Orange County Community College (SUNY-Orange) in Middletown, NY on Tuesday evening. The Lady Knights defeated the Colts of SUNY-Orange 57-51. With the victory the Lady Knights improve to 1-4 on the season.

The Lady Knights were eager for victory and jumped out on the Colts 17-6 by the end of the first quarter. Some turnovers and foul trouble got SUNY-Orange back in the game as they outscored CCRI 17-7 in the second quarter but the Lady Knights were able to hold a 24-23 half time lead.

In the second half the CCRI 2-3 zone defense caused a lot of problems for the Colts to score and the rebounding of Tri-Captain Jada Littlejohn (Providence, RI) and the sharpshooting of freshman Courtney Dorr (East Providence, RI) combined with the slashing ability of sophomore Kat Raposo (Warwick, RI) to penetrate to the basket helped CCRI to seal the victory in the second half. The Lady Knights outscored the Colts 15-12 in the third quarter and 18-16 in the fourth to go on to win by the final count of 57-51.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Courtney Dorr with a team-high 15 points including four 3-pointers with six rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. Also having a very good game was Tri-Captain Jada Littlejohn charting her second double-double of the season with 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds while adding five assist and three steals. Rounding out the CCRI starters in double-figures was Kat Raposo who scored 12 points with three assist, three rebounds and two steals. Sophomore Tri-Captain Waleska Kelly (Pawtucket, RI) had eight points, a team-high four steals with three rebounds and two blocked shots and freshman Olivia Batastini-Pallister (Providence, RI) added nine points including two 3-pointers with a team-high six assist, three rebounds and a steal.

The next game for the Lady Knights will be Tuesday the 20th when they travel to Bunker Hill Community College in Charlestown, MA to play the Bulldogs at 5:30pm as part of a doubleheader with the men who will play at 7:30pm.
