Lady Knights Garner Victory Over Generals 65-55!

Warwick, R.I. – February 11, 2019: The CCRI Lady Knights Basketball team traveled to Loch Sheldrake, NY to play the Generals of Sullivan Community College on Sunday for a game at 2pm. The Lady Knights defeated the Generals 65-55. With the victory CCRI improves to 10-11 on the season.

The Lady Knights began the game well by scoring 14 points led by Co-Captain Kat Raposo (Warwick, RI) who scored eight of the Lady Knights 14 points. CCRI also did an excellent job defensively as the game began holding Sullivan to just seven points. After one quarter CCRI led Sullivan 14-7.

Sullivan bounced back with authority in the second quarter as the returned the favor to CCRI by holding the Lady Knights to just seven points in the quarter while scoring 15 to take a 22-21 lead into the halftime break. Lady Knights' Co-Captain Waleska Kelly (Pawtucket, RI) scored four in the quarter while Olivia Batastini (Providence, RI) added a 3-pointer but the Generals' Hope Harris scored nine points in the quarter including two 3-pointers to spur the Generals to a one point halftime lead.

In the third Co-Captain Kat Raposo and Olivia Batastini led CCRI as they were able to regain the lead on Sullivan. Raposo scored seven points while Batastini added six points on two 3-pointers which helped CCRI to a 42-39 lead with one quarter to play.

The Lady Knights saved their best quarter for last as they poured in 23 points led by Co-Captains Jada Littlejohn (Providence, RI) and Waleska Kelly who scored eight points apiece while Co-Captain Kat Raposo added five points into the mix. The balanced scoring effort allowed CCRI to pull away and win by the final count of 65-55 and garner the hard fought road victory.

Leading the way for CCRI was Co-Captain Kat Raposo with a game-high 20 points, three assist, three rebounds and two steals. Co-Captain Waleska Kelly charted a double with 14 points and 13 rebounds with two assists and a steal. Co-Captain Jada Littlejohn had a great all-around game with 13 points including two 3-pointers, eight rebounds, seven steals and six assists. Freshman Olivia Batastini had 11 points including two 3-pointers with six assists, six rebounds and one steal and freshman Faith Fahnbulleh (Providence, RI) added four points and eight rebounds.

The next game for the Lady Knights will be Tuesday the 12th when they will host the Bayhawks of Bristol Community College for a game at 5pm. This game will also be the Lady Knights Pink Out and Sophomore Day as they will wear pink to raise awareness for women's cancers and honor their four sophomores who will be making their final appearance at the Cullen Fieldhouse. The four sophomores who will be honored are: Jada Littlejohn, Tatyana Correia (injured), Waleska Kelly and Kat Raposo.
