Warwick, R.I. – April 25, 2019: The CCRI Lady Knights softball team traveled to New Rochelle, NY to play the Division I Mustangs of Monroe College for a doubleheader on Wednesday. CCRI lost both games 12-4 and 7-2. With the losses The Lady Knights are now 10-10 on the season.

Game 1: CCRI- 4 Monroe- 12 in five innings

In the circle for the Lady Knights in the first game was Tri-Captain Hannah Caliri (Pawtucket, RI) who pitched well but her defense did not help her allowing five fielding errors. The Mustangs have a very potent line-up and giving them extra outs was the key them winning by mercy rule in five innings. Caliri threw 4 2/3 innings allowing eight earned runs on nine hits, walking three and striking out six Mustang batters but took the loss. Hannah did help her own cause at the plate with e 2-run inside-the-park Homerun to account for two of the Lady Knights' four runs.

At the plat for the Lady Knights they only had five hits besides Caliri's Homerun. Tri-Captain Maddie McDonald (East Providence, RI) had a single and RBI and a run scored.

Victoria Passaretti (East Greenwich, RI) also had a single, an RBI and a run scored. Mackenzie Doyle (Glocester, RI) had a single, a stolen base and a run scored. Rounding out the CCRI offense was Hannah Northup (Warwick, RI) and Tri-Captain Sam Muller (North Stonington, CT) who both had singles.

Game 2: CCRI- 2 Monroe- 7 in five innings (scheduling conflict)

In the circle for the Lady Knights in the second game of the doubleheader was Tri-Captain Sam Muller who pitched well but again the Lady Knights' defense let her down committing four errors. Muller pitched four innings allowing four earned runs on four hits, walking two and striking out three. She pitched well enough to get the victory but the Lady Knights only managed three hits and the defense was not where it needed to be for that to happen.

Mackenzie Doyle

Mackenzie Doyle

At the plate for The Lady Knights were led by Mackenzie Doyle had two hits, a walk, two stolen bases and a run scored. Doyle has been putting up some eye-popping numbers at the plate in her freshman campaign for CCRI leading the nation with a .632 batting average and .679 on base percentage. Mackenzie has 43 hits including eight doubles and a homerun and recorded at least one hit in 18 of the 20 games she has played for the Lady Knights. Also helping CCRI in the second game was Victoria Passaretti with a hit, a stolen base and an RBI. Freshman Hannah Northup added a walk and an RBI while Raevyn Watson (East Providence, RI) and Alexis LeBelle (Warwick, RI) each reached via a walk as well. Unfortunately that wasn't enough offense to overcome their mistakes on defense. Also the game was shortened, though an official game, to five innings (4 ½) due to a scheduling conflict with the field at Monroe.

The Next games on the schedule for the Lady Knights are Saturday at 12/2 when they will travel to Portland, ME to play the Seawolves for e Doubleheader and Sunday at 11a/1p when they will travel to Auburn, ME to play the Mustangs of Central Maine Community College.
