Volleyball sweeps doubleheader against Holyoke, Bunker Hill to improve to 4-0

September 27, 2022

Lincoln, RI – The Community College of Rhode Island volleyball team remains undefeated following a doubleheader sweep at home against Holyoke and Bunker Hill Community Colleges this past weekend.

With a 25-23, 26-24, 15-25, 22-25, 15-10 win over Holyoke and a 25-15, 25-19, 25-17 sweep over Bunker Hill, the Knights are 4-0 in 2022 and have won 10 of 11 matches dating back to last season.

In Game 1 of the doubleheader, freshman Madison Dessert (Coventry, RI) and sophomore co-captain Madison Capwell (Coventry, RI) finished with 13 kills apiece and sophomore co-captain Kelsey Conway paced the Knights’ attack with a team-high seven service aces and 29 assists. Freshmen Ariana Ortiz (Providence, RI) and Kaylie Cabral (Tiverton, RI) anchored the back line with 12 and 11 digs, respectively, and Capwell added 12 of her own to go along with six service aces in an all-around solid effort.

After staving off Holyoke’s furious rally in the opener to win in five sets – the second time these two teams have gone the distance this year – the Knights cruised in Game 2 against Bunker Hill. The Coventry trio of Capwell, Dessert, and Conway combined for 21 kills, 13 service aces, and 23 assists. Freshman Aoibh Potter (Burrillville, RI) finished with three kills and an ace.

The Knights return to action Tuesday in a rematch against Bunker Hill on the road beginning at 6 pm.
