Why enroll?
Free to You!
Advantage Math and Reading/Writing courses have no cost, which allows students to
save their limited financial aid dollars for courses that will earn them credits toward
their degree.
Saves Time
This program helps students develop English and/or math skills in a short period of
time (first 7 weeks) and take college-level courses (second 7 weeks), in the same
semester. The summer intensive program allows students to complete all developmental
needs in the summer and be ready for College credit-bearing courses with their peers
in the fall.
Dedicated Instructors
Our instructors promote learning through a student-centered approach that encourages
understanding through exploration, questioning, and classroom interaction.
Personal Advisors
Each student is assigned an academic adviser and participates in a PATH 1010 College Success Seminar that focuses on preparing students to navigate campus life and transition to college-level
coursework.
Classes are taught in an accelerated 7-week format based on a faculty-designed math
curriculum that prepares students to take: MATH 1139, MATH 1139C, MATH 1175, or MATH
1175C. Classes are taught by CCRI Educational Facilitators and math tutors.
What is Advantage Reading/Writing?
Classes are taught in an accelerated 7-week format that prepares students to take
college-level English (ENGL 1010 or ENGL 1010 ALP). Classes are taught by CCRI Educational
Facilitators and writing assistants.
What campus offers CCRI Advantage classes?
CCRI Advantage is being offered on the Warwick (Knight) Campus and the Providence
(Liston) Campus. Instruction for the Advantage program is in person only, and is a
combination of whole-class, individual, and small-group work. Students are expected
to be active participants in this learning experience.
How long are the classes?
CCRI Advantage is a semester-long program that is offered in the fall and spring.
Students enroll for7-weeks of intensive learning in their subject of need, and for
15-weeks in PATH 1010. In thesecond 7-weeks, students successfully completing the
Advantage courses will move directly intocredit bearing courses as determined by the
Advantage Team. The focus of CCRI Advantage is tohave students on par with peers who
did not require developmental education. Advantage Classes meet Monday through Thursday
from 8:30 am until 12:30 pm. Then, two daysper week, students will continue in their
PATH 1010 Course from 1 pm until 2:15 pm. Students will not have classes on Fridays.
On the days students stay for PATH 1010, lunch will be provided by the program. Math
students will enroll in PATH 1010 on Monday and Wednesday, and Reading/Writing Students
will have their PATH 1010 Course on Tuesday and Thursday.
Do I receive any other support and advisement as part of the program?
Each class is taught by an expert faculty member trained in the CCRI Advantage approach
and there to guide and support the learning environment. In addition, each classroom
has the support ofAdult Education Facilitators who are also trained on the curriculum
and design of the class. Teachers work together to support students and guide learning
before, during, and after class. Math tutors and writing assistants are also available
to support students in the classroom. Additionally, each student is assigned an academic
advisor and attends a weekly PATH 1010“College Success” seminar that helps students
learn about navigating campus life and transitioning to college-level coursework.
Is this program for me if I am not fluent in English?
All CCRI Advantage classes are taught in English. Students who are not fluent in English
but meet the ACCUPLACER/ACCESS milestones for entry may be eligible. Those students
who require ESL language courses are not currently eligible for CCRI Advantage.
How do I enroll?
Students should attend an information session and/or meet with Kaylee Collins in the
Advisement Office at Warwick. The advisor will verify eligibility and help students
register for CCRI Advantage and PATH 1010 courses.
Will my enrollment in CCRI Advantage be noted in my file and affect future coursework?
Upon completion of any CCRI Advantage program, each student will receive a grade.
Students who pass the course receive a “P” on their transcript and are eligible to
enroll in credited courses. Students who do not successfully complete the Advantage
coursework will still be enrolled in PATH 1010 and will work with their advisors and
Adult Education Facilitators to design a next-step plan.
What happens after I complete the CCRI Advantage program?
Program completers are significantly better prepared for college-level coursework.
Students who complete the program and receive a passing grade can immediately enroll
in college credit courses for the second 7 weeks of the semester and work toward their
degree.
