2024 – October Cyber Security Awareness Month

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month –a time for all of us in the CCRI community to work together to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity.

This year, Community College of Rhode Island is promoting the National Cybersecurity - Secure our World Campaign to raise cybersecurity awareness and help our community stay safe online. Cybersecurity Awareness Month is an opportunity for everyone to learn practical tips for protecting personal and institutional data.

Each Monday in October, we'll unveil information, brief video modules, tip sheets as dell as entertaining content to educate you and test your newfound knowledge.

Here are the topics we're covering during Cybersecurity Awareness Month:

Week 1: Recognize and Report Phishing

  • Don’t Take the Bait – Follow along with us as we explore ways to avoid becoming the victim of a Phishing Campaign.

Week 2: Creating Strong Passwords

Week 3: Enable Multifactor Authentication ( MFA )

  • You need more than a password to protect your online accounts and enabling MFA makes you significantly less likely to get hacked. Enable MFA on all your online accounts that offer it, especially email, social media and financial accounts.

Week 4: Secure Software is Updated Software

Don't delay software updates. Flaws in software can give criminals access to files or accounts. Programmers fix these flaws as soon as they can, but we must install updates for the latest protection!

Week 4 – Secure Software is Updated Software

The fun begins Monday, October 7.
