Articulation Policy

Articulation Policy between Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene Programs

Community College of Rhode Island Dental Assisting students may earn advanced standing in
the Dental Hygiene Program at CCRI. The policy of the Dental Health Department is to allow course substitution for students who have graduated from or are enrolled in the Dental Assisting Program who are interested in matriculating into the Dental Hygiene Program. Dental assisting courses may be substituted or accepted as follows:

It is the student's responsibility to contact the dental hygiene admissions officer to request
notation be made on the student's official transcript.

DENT 2010: Oral Radiography

Completion of this course, with a final course grade of "C+" or better, will be accepted by the dental hygiene program. (4 credits). This course will automatically be applied toward dental hygiene program requirements.

DENT 2225: Dental Materials Lab for Dental Assistants

Completion of this course, with aFinal course grade of "C+" or better, may be substituted for DENT 2220: Dental Materials Lab for Dental Hygienists. (I credit) It is the student's responsibility to contact the dental hygiene program director for completion of the appropriate course substitution form.

DAST 1010: Oral Biology I, DAST 1020: Preventive Dentistry and DAST 1030: Chairside Dental Assisting I

Completion of all three of these courses, with a final course grade of "C+" or
better, within the previous ten (10) years, may be substituted for the dental hygiene program
admission requirement, DENT 1000: Introduction to Dental Health Careers. (2 credits). It is
the student's responsibility to contact the Dental Hygiene Program Director to request a notation
be made on the student's official transcript.
