Anderson & Lenox Lead CCRI at Track Nationals!

Warwick, R.I. – May 14, 2018: The CCRI Men's and Women's Track and Field qualifiers traveled to Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY to compete in the NJCAA DIII Track & Field National Championships Thursday through Saturday. The Lady Knights finished tied for 16th with 14 total points. The women's meet was won by Kingsborough Community College with 155 total points. The Knights did not record any points and the men's meet was won by Rowan College at Gloucester CC who scored 134.5 team points.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights women was hurdler Victoria Anderson (Manville, RI) who placed 5th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.75 seconds which earned the team four points. Anderson then placed 6th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1 minute 16.46 seconds to earn the team three points. Victoria qualified for the finales with great prelim times of 17.37 seconds in the 100m hurdles and 1:15.06 in the 400m hurdle preliminaries. Anderson was responsible for seven of the Lady Knights' 14 team points.

The defending Champion in the Triple Jump was Allison Lenox (North Kingstown, RI) who placed 4th this year in the event a 10.44m leap to earn the Lady Knights five team points. Lenox also placed 7th in the 400m run with a time of 1:05.82 which earned CCRI two team points. Allison ran a season-best time of 1:03.46 in the preliminaries to advance the final. Anderson and Lenox accounted for all the points scored by CCRI at the Championships with seven apiece.

Also performing well for the Lady Knights in her first National Championship was Courtney Ludovici (Burrillville, RI) who threw a season-best distance of 26.24m to place 9th in the Javelin Throw.

For the Knights' men Ryan Pagliaro (Smithfield, RI) led the way running a gallant 1,500m preliminary of 4 minutes 27.40 seconds which advanced him to the final where he placed 12th in an impressive time of 4:23.72. Head Coach Gregg Cornell commented "This was a great effort by Ryan (Pagliaro) who missed all of the spring season with an injury. For him come back with only two weeks of training to advance to the finals in his event shows great determination." Also competing for the Knights was Kelder Cardoso (Pawtucket, RI) who placed 14th in the Javelin Throw with a 34.30m effort.

Coach Cornell added after the Championships: "This was a solid effort by all the CCRI athletes who qualified to compete at the Championship."
