Knights Golf in Third Place after 1st Day of Regional

Warwick, R.I. – May 23, 2018: The CCRI Knights golf team is hosting the 2018 Region XXI Golf tournament at Cranston Country Club in Cranston, RI. There were three full teams who participated: CCRI, Massasoit Community College and MassBay Community College. There were also three schools that had individual participants in the event: Bristol Community College had two golfers, Springfield Technical Community College had two golfers and Holyoke Community College had three golfers.

The team scores after the first day had CCRI in third place overall with a 376 team total. In second place was MassBay CC with a 346 team score. Leading the team scores was Massasoit CC with a team low score of 340.

The individual scores for CCRI were led by Captain Tyler Boisclair (West Warwick, RI) who shot a team low of 84. Boisclair cruised through the front nine with a 38 but had trouble on the back nine bogeying three of the first four holes and then had big trouble on the 17th where he carded a 10. Tyler finished the day tied for fifth individually. He was followed by Michael Occhi (Portsmouth, RI) who shot a 92 shooting a 45 going out and 47 coming in for the total of 92. Occhi was in 11th place individually after the first round. Matt Malo (Cranston, RI) who shot a 100 with a 53 going out and came in six strokes better with a 47 placing him tied for 15th. Malo was tied with teammate Colby Alfred (Cranston, RI) who also shot a 100 shooting a 50 on the way out and on the way in and tying him for 15th place individually. Rounding out the CCRI participants was Kyle Dagesse (Lincoln, RI) who shot a 101 which included going out in a 54 and coming in seven strokes better with a 47 that placed him 17th individually.

The second place team of MassBay CC was led by overall tournament leader Nick Barber who shot a 77. Luke Spangenberg shot an 86 followed by Mike Badiani with an 88. The final two golfers for MassBay were John Lee with a 95 and JT Locke who shot a 99 for a team total of 346.

The team leader was Massasoit CC led by Shawn McIsaac with an 81 followed by Chris Flipp with an 84. That duo was followed by Chris McMorrow who shot an 87 and Jack DaCoste who shot an 88 for a team total of 340.

The three golfers for Holyoke CC had the following scores: Ryan McGeary 81, Kyle Richter 83 and Anthony Forest 115. The two golfers for Springfield tech had the following scores: Mike Bushey 95 and Christian Ostrowski 135. The final two golfers were from Bristol CC and had the following scores: Conor Chace 111 and Steve Cabral 121.

Round two in the Region XXI Tournament tees off beginning at 9:52 am Wednesday morning at Cranston Country Club in Cranston, RI.
