CCRI Wins Joust between Knights 11-7!

Warwick, R.I. – May 9, 2018: The CCRI Knights baseball team hosted the Knights of Northern Essex Community College on Tuesday evening. The high-octane offense from both teams produced a total of 25 hits and 18 runs. The CCRI Knights came out on top, winning in nine innings, 11-7. The win improves CCRI's season record to 20-18 overall, 8-5 in Region XXI play and 1-3 in league play.

CCRI – 11 Northern Essex – 7

Tuesday's game was a seesaw battle of Knights early, which ultimately went the way off the CCRI Knights. CCRI started the scoring with a three run bottom of the first, but was quickly answered to by a Northern Essex six-run second. Two runs in the third and three in the fourth gave CCRI the 8-6 lead. Northern Essex mustered one more run in the fifth to bring it with in one run, but couldn't keep the momentum as CCRI would go on to score three more runs, two in the sixth and one run in the eighth, winning the game 11-7.

The explosive offense was led by Jarrad Grossguth (Coventry, RI) as he went 4-4 with a single, two doubles and one triple, just a homer shy of a cycle with four RBI and four runs scored. Zach Odsen (Providence, RI) went 3-3 with three singles, three runs scored and three RBIs. Owen Wosleger (East Hampton, CT) was 2-5 with two singles, a run scored and a stolen base. Exavier Santiago (Bridgeport, CT) went 2-4 with two singles and a RBI. Both Joey Barter (Coventry, RI) and Austin Davis (Hollywood, FL) added singles and one RBI apiece. Michael Castillo (Cranston, RI) batted 1-3 with a single and Nick D'Ambra (Coventry, RI) added a single and was a menace on the base paths swiping three stolen bases.

Getting her start on the mound for CCRI was Max Marcotte (Coventry, RI) who threw four innings, allowing five earned runs while striking out three. David Mejia (Pawtucket, RI) came in but loaded the bases and was relieved by John Hemond (Pawtucket, RI) who got out of the jam with only one run scoring. Hemond pitched two innings, allowing just one hit and striking out one batter. Korey Fijal (Johnston, RI) finished the game off, throwing two and two thirds innings, conceding just one hit and striking out five batters.

UP NEXT: The CCRI Knights baseball team will travel to Groton, CT to face rival UConn-Avery Point on Friday May 11th in a must win situation in their season long league series. The Knights currently trail the Pointers 3-1 in the best-of-seven affair.
