Knights Fall Short in Season Series Versus UCAP

Warwick, R.I. – May 14, 2018: The CCRI Knights baseball team traveled to Groton, CT to take on the Pointers of UConn Avery Point (UCAP) on Friday evening. The Knights needed a win to emerge victorious in the season long seven game series but came up short, losing the game 8-4. The loss drops CCRI's season record to 20-19 overall with an 8-6 Region XXI record and 1-4 in league play.

Friday's game saw a slow start as scoring did not commence until the bottom of the fourth when UCAP scored a single run. The Knights answered in the top of the fifth when Exavier Santiago (Bridgeport, CT) launched a grand slam over the fence, giving CCRI a 4-1 lead.

UCAP took another run back in the bottom of the fifth and then stole the lead the following inning with a four-run bottom of the sixth, CCRI 4, UCAP 6. The pointers would score another two runs in the eighth that would go unanswered as UCAP would go onto win 8-4.

The CCRI offense was held at bay for much of the game. Exavier Santiago led the Knights by launching his first career grand slam which also gave him four RBI and a run scored. Zach Odsen (Providence, RI) had a double and a run scored. The last hit came from Michael Castillo (Cranston, RI) who went 1-3 with a single and a run scored.

Max Marcotte (Coventry, RI) started on the mound for the Knights, throwing five and two thirds innings. Marcotte allowed seven hits and four earned runs, while striking out five batters. Kyle McCann (Coventry, RI) came in for relief, pitching two and one thirds innings, conceding two runs and striking out four batters.

UP NEXT: The CCRI Knights baseball team will finish of the season long series against UConn Avery Point on Sunday May 13 with a noon doubleheader.
