Knights Drop Two Games in Maryland

Warwick, R.I. – April 30, 2018: The CCRI Knights baseball team traveled to Catonsville, MD to take on the Community College of Baltimore County-Catonsville Cardinals (CCBC-Catonsville) and Potomac State College of West Virginia University Catamounts. The Knights dropped both games of the tri-match doubleheader 6-9 and 10-13 to CCBC and Potomac State respectively. The losses drop CCRI's season record to 18-17 overall, 7-5 in Region XXI play and 1-3 in league play.

CCRI – 6 CCBC-Catonsville – 9

Game one saw a multitude of offensive outbursts from both dugouts. CCBC enjoyed two three-run homers with CCRI enjoying two homers of their own. The Knights offense was led by Jarrad Grossguth (Coventry, RI) who had one of those homers along with a single and two RBI. Michael Castillo (Cranston, RI) added a homerun of his own; a solo blast. Joey Barter (Coventry, RI) batted 1-3, one single and one RBI. Austin Davis (Hollywood, FL) added a single as he went 1-3 with a RBI as well. Exavier Santiago (Bridgeport, CT) notched a single while going 1-2 adding a run scored. Zach Odsen (Providence, RI) rounded off the hitting with a single, adding a RBI and a run scored.

Starting on the mound was Max Marcotte (Coventry, RI) who threw three innings, conceding six earned runs. Matt Gutelius (South Kingstown, RI) came in relief for an inning allowing two earned runs. Kyle McCann (Coventry, RI) finished off the game for the Knights with two innings of work, not conceding a single run and striking out two batters.

CCRI – 10 Potomac State – 13

Game two saw even more emphatic offense as the Catamounts from Potomac State smacked five homers in the game. CCRI battled back, registering 15 team hits. Leading the effort was Nick D'Ambra (Coventry, RI) with three hits, all singles and knocked in one RBI and scored two runs. David Mejia (Pawtucket, RI) notched three hits. Austin Davis had two doubles including a basses loaded clearing double contributing to his three RBI and one run scored in game two. Exavier Santiago had a productive game, batting 2-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Michael Castillo and Ray Aponte (East Providence, RI) both smacked doubles down range for their lone hits in game two. Zach Odsen and Jacob Frost (Cranston, RI) recorded singles at the tail end of the offense.

Four pitchers took to the mound for CCRI. Zach D'Andrea (Warwick, RI) started, going three and one thirds innings, allowing sever runs. Korey Fijal (Johnston, RI) threw one and two thirds conceding five runs. Joey Barter and Asa Nyblom (Wakefield, RI) each threw one inning apiece with Barter allowing just one run and Nyblom not even conceding a hit.
