Six Knights Earn Baseball All-Region Laurels!

Warwick, R.I. – May 15, 2018: The CCRI Knights baseball team had eight of its players receive All-Region Honors for the 2018 season. Austin Davis (Hollywood, FL), Jarrad Grossguth (Coventry, RI), Max Marcotte (Coventry, RI), Michael Castillo (Cranston, RI), Zach Odsen (Providence, RI) and Kyle McCann (Coventry, RI) were all named to the 2018 Division II All-Region 21 Baseball team.

Austin Davis was a key figure of the Knights baseball team and was named as one of the outfielders for the regional team. Davis had the No. 41 batting average in the nation at .420 which toped Region XXI. He also batted in 37 runs, which was tied for second most in the region and recorded 24 runs scored. Davis amassed 50 hits on the season of which 14 were doubles, good for 81st in the nation. Adding to his two homeruns and one triple, Davis registered a .605 slugging percentage. Austin was able to reach on more than half of his at bats, with an on base percentage of .517, good for No. 35 in the nation. He had eight stolen bases on the year which was third most in the region. Davis was instrumental for the Knights in the field as well. Austin, along with his spot on the All-Region team, received the Rawlings Gold Glove award. Davis had a .951 fielding percentage, covering tremendous ground out in left field for the Knights.

Jarrad Grossguth took the shortstop spot in the team. The freshman had an impressive year, batting .319 with 37 hits. Grossguth's power at the plate was often the catalyst of an explosive CCRI offense. He smacked eight homers on the year which was second in the region and recorded a team leading .612 slugging percentage. Grossguth also had 36 RBI on the year with 34 runs scored. He added six stolen bases and an on base percentage of .423 to his season stats.

Max Marcotte

Max Marcotte

Max Marcotte was an ace on the mound for the Knights this season and was named as one of the three pitchers for the regional team. Marcotte was 5-3 on the year with a 4.06 ERA. He had 63 strikeouts which led the region and was good for No. 86 in the nation. Max registered an impressive 12.79 strikeouts per game and pitched a total of 44 and one third innings for CCRI.

Michael Castillo was an important part of the outfield unit this year for the Knights and took a spot as an outfielder in the regional team. Castillo had a solid year, batting .362 with 29 hits. He had an on base percentage of .463 and was often in scoring position with a region leading 15 stolen basses which was also good enough for No. 127 in the nation. Castillo notched 17 RBI with 23 runs scored. He hit for extra basses on seven occasions and had added three homers for a .563 slugging percentage. Mike also earned the Rawlings Gold Glove Award as he had a fielding percentage of .981, good for No. 240 in the nation.

Zach Odsen took the second basemen spot in the regional team. The freshman had a solid year, batting .305 with 29 hits, eight doubles and two homeruns with a .453 slugging percentage. Odsen batted in 23 runs and scored 24 on the season and was an important part of the Knights infield unit.

Kyle McCann had a fantastic debut year for CCRI as he had a 3-1 record and earned a spot on the regional team as a pitcher. McCann led the region and was ranked ninth in the nation with a 1.93 ERA. Kyle had 40 strikeouts on the year which was the third highest in the region. McCann averaged 8.57 strikeouts per game and threw 42 innings for the Knights.
