Writing Center Services
The CCRI Writing Centers offer consultation services to all CCRI students. Walk-in tutoring is available, and up to four thirty-minute appointments can be scheduled each week per student. The writing center staff can help with many kinds of writing projects, including:
- Writing and revising in-class, outside-of-class, and group assignments
- Getting started with a writing task
- Writing paragraphs, essays, research papers, reports, resumes, business letters, and transfer letters
- Creating thesis statements and topic sentences
- Organizing and developing ideas, including the use of different modes
- Adding more content to a paper
- Analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating information
- Writing quotations, paraphrases, and summaries
- Creating research papers with the MLA system, the APA system, the Chicago (notes-bibliography) system, or another documentation system
- Responding to literature, as well as to other types of readings
- Using global and local revision techniques
- Editing for correct and effective use of verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, homonyms, sentence sense, punctuation, subject/verb agreement, fragments, run-ons, parallel structure, pronouns, misplaced or dangling modifiers, and clarity
