How do I start the process at CCRI?
You may call the office of Enrollment Services at 401-825-2003. Information can also be found on the Enrollment Services Home page. After you officially apply to the college, you will be invited to attend a New Student Registration where you will meet with an Advisor, register for courses, and learn valuable information about the college's resources.
What is a placement test?
New students are required to take a placement test in writing, reading and math. Counselors will review the results of your test at New Student Registration and place you into appropriate level courses.
How do I take the placement test?
It is required that you take the placement test before your New Student Registration. Computerized placement testing is available at many convenient hours. Call 401-825-2301 (Warwick), 401-333-7159 (Lincoln), or 401-455-6063 (Providence) for further details.
How do I calculate my GPA?
GPA is determined by dividing the cumulative quality points (QPTS) by the cumulative quality hours (QHRS). Go to the online GPA calculator for assistance.
How many courses do I need to take?
If you want to attend the College on a full time basis, you must register for a minimum of 12 credits. Anything below 12 credits is considered part time status. You should discuss with a Counselor the most appropriate plan of action regarding course selection.
What if I don't know what to major in?
Counselors can help you select general education courses that are applicable towards a variety of degree programs. You may want to consider pursuing Career Counseling or registering for a Career Information Seminar which will assist you in defining your goals.
What if I want to transfer to a four year school?
Community College of Rhode Island has several articulation agreements with many four year institutions. We recommend that all students who are considering to transfer to a four year institution begin transfer planning during their first semester. Contact the Advising Center for further information.
