Sterile Processing Technician

CCRI Division of Workforce Partnerships and Lifespan are excited to offer Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) training in January 2025!  

Sterile Processing Technicians play an essential role in a hospital's surgical environment, ensuring that all surgical instruments and medical equipment are properly cleaned, assembled, sterilized and maintained to support safe and efficient surgical procedures. Program graduates will have opportunities to secure full-time-second shift employment at Lifespan after successful program completion. Graduates must pass the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association's Certified Registered Central Service Technician exam within 1 year of hire.

Prerequisites:

  • At least 18 years of age with GED or high school diploma.
  • Full immunizations, including evidence of COVID-19 vaccination.
  • Must be a Rhode Island resident who is eligible to work in the United States​.
  • Must have reliable childcare​ and transportation.
  • Must commit to one year of employment at Lifespan if a position is offered.

Program start date: January 13, 2025

Course schedule:

  • Monday - 8:30 am to 3:30 pm (CCRI Providence Campus)
  • Tuesday - clinical skills at Rhode Island Hospital
  •      1st shift: 6:00 am to 2:30 pm OR
  •       2nd shift: 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm
  • Wednesday - 9:00 am to 3 pm - Workforce Wednesdays with Lifespan
  • Thursday - clinical skills at Rhode Island Hospital
  •       1st shift: 6am-2:30pm OR
  •       2nd shift: 2pm to 10:30pm
  • Friday - 8:30am to 3:30pm (CCRI Providence Campus)

Cost: Free for those who are accepted into the program, including all books, supplies, materials and fees for the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association's Certified Registered Central Service Technician exam

Time commitment: 34 hours per week for 16 weeks
