For Students

CCRI’s Tutoring Program features professional tutors, many of whom are retired teachers, and peer tutors who have been recommended by CCRI faculty to provide tutoring for their courses. Our tutors provide online and on-campus* tutoring appointments throughout the day and evening. CCRI tutors collaborate with CCRI faculty to create unique tutoring services such as classroom and laboratory tutoring and pre-semester seminars for subject-specific study strategies. CCRI’s Tutoring Program is certified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA). *Due to COVID campus restrictions tutoring is currently offered online only.
It is easy to connect to a CCRI tutor by signing into Starfish and clicking on the “Courses” link to display your current classes. If a tutor is available for your course, a Student Success Center information box will display with a link to tutor schedules. Watch this two minute video on how to schedule tutoring appointments through Starfish.
TutorMe is an online tutoring platform that allows you to connect with verified tutors 24 hours a day covering more than 300 subjects. This service provides a lifeline to our students who may not be able to access a CCRI tutor, or those who need immediate assistance outside of our business hours.
Log into your Blackboard account to find a link for TutorMe listed under “Tools” on the left-hand side of the navigation bar. Within 90 seconds of your request, you will have access to a tutor. In addition, you also have the option to submit writing assignments to TutorMe’s Writing Lab, where you will receive detailed feedback in less than 12 hours.
Partner with an Academic Coach*
Academic coaching is a personalized student-coach partnership with appointments tailored to your needs. Meetings may include discussing organization and time management skills, textbook-reading techniques, note-taking tips, and test-taking strategies. Part of this includes helping you become more study savvy by knowing how to apply new skills to your courses. Coaches also refer you to CCRI’s other support services when warranted. The Student Success Center offers coaching services as one-time appointments or a series of consultations throughout the semester. *For help selecting your courses or advice on your major, contact Advising & Counseling.
