Remote Learning FAQs

Do I need to be vaccinated to take classes on campus?

CCRI requires all full- and part-time students enrolled for in-person classes for the Fall 2021 semester to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an approved exemption.

Those enrolled in CCRI's Summer Session do not need to show proof of vaccination, however, students who are not fully vaccinated for Summer Session will be required to participate in regular, on-campus surveillance testing.

This policy is to help us achieve our goal of reuniting as a community where we can learn together, socialize, play sports, and more. To attend CCRI and to be fully involved in the many activities that enrich all of us, you must be fully vaccinated.

We will be sharing information on how to securely upload this information or to seek a medical or religious exemption next month.

The COVID‑19 vaccines are safe, widely available, and greatly effective at limiting the transmission of the virus. Vaccination has been shown to nearly eliminate the chances of death or serious illness related to a COVID‑19 infection. The vaccines are a critical element in protecting public health locally and worldwide. CCRI students need to do their part in this fight.

Failure to be vaccinated or have an approved exemption will result in your inability to participate in face-to-face classes, in-person activities, and campus events. Students enrolled in on-line courses only are not required, but strongly encouraged, to receive the vaccine.

To be considered fully vaccinated, you must have received all recommended doses of an accepted COVID-19 vaccine, with the final dose having been administered at least 14 days ago.

You can receive a vaccine at a CCRI clinic, state-run clinic, your local pharmacy or grocery store, local hospital, or a clinic in your community. Many sites don’t even require an appointment. To find a vaccine site near you, visit vaccinateri.org, or Google search “Find a vaccine clinic near me.”

Vaccines are FREE and do not require proof of health insurance or documentation of citizenship status.

CCRI will host free vaccine clinics at each of our upcoming Open Enrollment Days. The CCRI campus clinics will be administering the Pfizer vaccine. Pre-registration is not required, but recommended.

How do I upload my vaccine card?

We will have a web portal available for vaccine card upload later in July. Please continue to check your CCRI email regularly for updated information.

Do I need to get vaccinated if I have already had COVID-19?

Yes, all students enrolled in in-person classes need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. A prior COVID-19 infection does not exempt a student from this vaccine requirement.

How do I file an exemption?

We will have medical and religious exemption forms available to download and fill out in July. Once complete, the exemption form can be uploaded to secure portal. Please continue to check this site and your CCRI email for updated information and instructions on how to upload vaccination card or exemption form to the portal.

How do I request a medical exemption?

You will need to have an unrelated, third-party healthcare provider complete a sign a medical exemption form. The medical exemption form will be available in July. Please continue to check this site and your CCRI email for more information.

What do I do if I’m in a program that is not offered online (e.g. Nursing, Engineering)?

The vaccine mandate is required to ensure the health and safety of the CCRI community. We have made an effort to offer many courses online, but there are programs that are only available for in-person course offerings.

What if I am vaccinated, but I lost my vaccine card?

If you were vaccinated in Rhode Island, you can view and print your proof of vaccination through the following portal: https://portal.ri.gov/VaccineRecord/s/. If you were vaccinated in another state, please consult that state’s Department of Health.

Do I have to be fully vaccinated or is the first dose sufficient to allow me to begin classes?

You need to be fully vaccinated, which means receiving the final dose at least 14 days prior to your first day of class, in order to attend in-person classes at CCRI this fall. If you are not fully vaccinated by the start date of our regular session classes, you may consider enrolling in Late Start classes, which begin on September 27, or you may enroll in exclusively online classes.

What if I recently had COVID and cannot yet get vaccinated?

In accordance with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), people who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 can receive the vaccine once they are no longer infectious and symptoms are improving, which is typically after 10 days since symptoms first started so long as the individual does not have a fever and/or is symptom free.

Will the library be open this semester?

Yes. Our campus libraries are offering in-person and full virtual assistance this summer. Visit the Library webpage for information on all services and resources. Curbside pickup and drop off services will also be available at all three locations.

How will I know if my class is online or in person?

In-person classes will be listed on your schedule with an accompanying room number. Online courses are listed as either online, synchronous (courses in which you are required to be online at the same time as your professor at the days and times on your schedule), or asynchronous (courses in which you can log in to the class and do your work at any time).

Am I eligible for the COVID Summer Scholarship?

To qualify, you must meet the following requirements:

  • A Rhode Island resident who qualifies for in-state tuition and fees pursuant to the Residency Policy as adopted by the Council on Postsecondary Education.
  • Enrolled in a CCRI associate degree or undergraduate certificate.
  • Enrolled at CCRI anytime within the Spring 2020 – Spring 2021 semesters. CCRI will determine enrollment as of February 15, 2020 (Spring '20), July 15 (Summer), October 15 (Fall), and February 10, 2021 (Spring '21). The National Student Clearinghouse will also be used to determine enrollment.
  • Did not earn an associate degree or bachelor’s degree. This requirement includes May 2021 graduates.

Do I still need to wear a mask on campus if I am vaccinated?

Yes. While Gov. Dan McKee’s new guidance states that fully-vaccinated individuals are no longer required to wear a face mask while at work, CCRI at this time will continue to require faculty, staff, and students to wear a mask/face covering while indoors regardless of vaccination status. This decision was made with the intent to keep our college community's health and safety as our top priority.

What other resources will be available on campus?

While our campuses will be open for the Summer 2021 semester, student access to campus will be limited to those with on-campus classes, appointments to meet with a professor, advisor or other CCRI staff, or to utilize one of the limited on-campus services like the open study spaces, computer lab, among other resources. Will study areas and classrooms be disinfected between uses?

Yes. CCRI’s Facilities Management Department has enhanced protocols for cleaning materials and frequency while using appropriate personal protective equipment. Many of the custodial services you have seen in the past in public spaces will continue as normal while, in addition to our standard cleaning, the college is using CDC-approved disinfectant products to sanitize frequently-touched surfaces. CCRI will also use disinfectant mist machines that increase the number of surfaces cleaned, and ensure hard-to-clean surfaces are disinfected in classrooms before the start of the first class and after the last class of the day.

Will the cafeteria be open in the summer?

Dining Services, including cafeterias and on-campus catering, will be limited for the summer sessions. Vending machines for snacks and drinks, as well as fresh sandwiches, will be available throughout the semester.

Will the bookstore be open this summer?

No. However, students can still shop online and purchase textbooks, bus passes, clothing, gift cards, and other supplies. All orders will be shipped and additional questions can be forwarded to [email protected]. Students can also order textbooks and course materials online.
