Superior view

The body of the rib is the surface that the intercostal muscles attach to.  The bodies of the ribs are the origin for:
1.    pectoralis minor (ribs 3, 4, and 5 near the costal cartilage),
2.    serratus anterior (ribs 1-8, superior lateral surface).
