The spermatic cord is the structure extending from the fascial sac surrounding the testicle to the external inguinal ring. It is covered with spermatic fascia and includes the vas deferens, internal spermatic artery and vein, lymphatics, and a branch of the genitofemoral nerve. Incorporated in the spermatic fascia is the cremaster muscle, which helps in thermoregulation for the testicle.  Originally, the cremaster muscle was part of the internal abdominal oblique muscle.
