Superior view

Note that the sacral promontory is the anterior, superior edge of the body of the first sacral vertebra.  It projects into the pelvic inlet differently in adult males and females.  It forms the posterior portion of the pelvic inlet.  The center of gravity for a human is approximately 1 centimeter posterior to this landmark.
