November 21, 2022

Anchored by a furious first-half run, the Community College of Rhode Island men’s basketball team snapped its three-game losing streak Saturday with a 100-62 road win over regional rival Holyoke Community College.

RJ Pina (East Providence, RI) was one of five Knights in double figures with a game-high 23 points and Jason Palmer (Westerly, RI) added 16 off the bench as CCRI outscored Holyoke 52-16 in the first half and held on for its first win since the season opener on November 5.

The Knights are now 2-3 heading into a busy 10-day stretch in which they play three games including two against Region XXI rivals. Next up is Quinsigamond Community College at home on November 22 beginning at 7 pm.

In Saturday’s win, the Knights shot a robust 36 percent from three-point range, led by the red-hot Pina, who sank 3 of 4 from beyond the arc. They also hauled in 34 rebounds, including 21 on the defensive end, and shut down Holyoke with 17 steals and nine blocked shots.

Mikey Gamble (Hartford, CT) finished 7 of 14 from the field and added 14 points while Neiko Ward (East Providence, RI) finished with 13 points, nine of which came on three-pointers.
