Dioh earns NJCAA-qualifying time in 800 at Eastern Connecticut State Invitational

Freshman Nicole Dioh (Woonsocket, RI) qualified for next month’s NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a seventh-place finish Friday in the 800 meters at the Eastern Connecticut State Invitational.

Dioh finished in 2 minutes, 39.52 seconds, just under the qualifying cut-off time of 2:42.49 in the women’s division. The NJCAA Championships run from May 12–14 at the Hudson Valley Outdoor Athletic Complex in Troy, NY.

Also competing for the men Friday in Connecticut, freshman Andrew Clarkin (Coventry, RI) continued to set new standards, finishing 10th in the 800 with a new season-best time of 2:07.22, eclipsing the time of 2:09.46 set last week at the Connecticut College Silfen Invitational.

Sophomore Jace Rodrigues (Smithfield, RI) also set a new season best with a throw of 34.58 meters in the javelin, beating his previous best of 32.47 set earlier this month. Rodrigues placed 14th in the competition. Freshman Austin Major (Coventry, RI) finished 11th in the long jump with a distance of 5.0 meters and 22nd in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.58 seconds.
