CCRI baseball strikes early, crushes Holyoke, 13-3, at Whitey Fell Field

April 15, 2022

Charos Pena (Providence, RI) homered and Matt Winn (Cranston, RI) pitched five strong innings to earn the win Thursday as the Community College of Rhode Island baseball team routed Holyoke Community College, 13-3, at Whitey Fell Field.

The Knights scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back, winning for the third time in four games to improve their overall record to 8-9. The two teams meet again this weekend in a doubleheader Saturday at Holyoke.

Pena and teammates Jacob Sanantonio (Cranston, RI), James Coleman (Pawtucket, RI), and Caleb Harris (Cranston, RI) each had two hits. Sanantiono’s two-hit performance caps a big week for the freshman shortstop, who also drove in the game-winning run in Monday’s come-from-behind victory over Quinsigamond.

Winn held Holyoke to three runs in his five innings of work and freshman Garrett Bolwell (Chepachet, RI) once again dominated out of the bullpen, pitching a shutout over the final three innings to close out the game. All told, Bolwell logged six innings of relief this week for the Knights, including three strikeouts in three innings Monday to earn the win against Quinsigamond.
