Warwick, R.I. – May 14, 2019: The CCRI Knights baseball team took on the Northern Essex Community College Knights on Monday morning. A win would give CCRI their 12th Region XXI Championship. The Knights did not disappoint, winning a close game 9-7 to take the Region XXI title. The win improves CCRI's season record to 24-10 overall, 15-1 in Region XXI play and 14-1 in League play.

After beating Northern Essex 15-4 on Saturday, CCRI started where they left off, scoring two runs in the top of the third inning, taking a 2-0 lead. Northern Essex answered right away, scoring three runs in the bottom half to take a 3-2 lead. Both teams would score another run in the fourth inning, Northern Essex leading 4-3 before Northern Essex scored another run in the fifth to expand their lead to two runs, 5-3 over CCRI. Two runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh inning brought CCRI back on top, 8-5. Northern Essex clawed one run back in the eighth which was counter by CCRI scoring one in the ninth. Heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, CCRI held a 9-6 lead. Late game heroics came up just short for Northern Essex as they scored one run in the bottom of the ninth but it wasn't enough. CCRI would win the game 9-7 and take the Region XXI title.

Sophomore Cristian Woods (East Providence, RI) took to the mound for CCRI and threw eight innings in which he allowed 12 hits and four earned runs with four strikeouts. Freshman Riley Beard (North Kingstown, RI) came in to close out the game, throwing one inning, allowing just one hit and one earned run.

The Knights were led at the plate by freshman Anthony Ramos (Cranston, RI) with a game leading four RBI and four runs scored while batting 1-2 with his first collegiate homerun and a stolen base. Freshman David Meech (Douglas, MA) batted in three runs while going 2-5 on the day with a double, a single and a stolen base. Sophomore co-captain Nick D'Ambra was 1-4 in the game, a double with two runs scored and a stolen base. Sophomore Kyle McCann (Coventry, RI) went 1-4 with a single and a run scored. Sophomore co-captain Zack Odsen (Providence, RI) added one RBI on a sacrifice fly.

The CCRI Knights baseball team will head to the District Finals against the Suffolk County Community College Sharks in a best of three series. The games will be Friday the 17th at 3:00 p.m., Saturday the 18th at noon and if needed Sunday the 19th at noon. The games will be played at the Medford Athletic Complex in Medford, NY.
