CCRI Knock Down Northern Essex 15-4 in Region XXI Playoffs!

Warwick, R.I. – May 13, 2019: The CCRI Knights baseball team played in their second Region XXI playoff game against the Northern Essex Community College Knights at Quinsigamond Community College on Saturday afternoon. CCRI's explosive offense once again propelled them to victory, beating Northern Essex 15-4 in seven innings. The win improves CCRI's season record to 23-10 overall, 14-1 in Region XXI play and 13-1 in League play.

CCRI came to Quinsigamond Community College off an 11-2 victory over Massasoit Community College in the first round of the Region XXI playoffs. The Knights got things going early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. They wouldn't score again until the fifth inning where five runs gave CCRI a 7-0 lead. Northern Essex came back with four runs in the top of the sixth inning, closing the lead to 7-4 in CCRI's favor. CCRI would answer back and close the game out emphatically, scoring three runs in the sixth and five in the seventh to end the game in seven innings, a 14-4 win.

Freshman pitcher Ben Sears (East Providence, RI) threw the complete, seven inning game for CCRI. Sears allowed five hits and four runs of which three were earned and added 10 strikeouts.

The CCRI offense was led at the plate by sophomore co-captain Zack Odsen (Providence, RI) as he went 2-3, two singles with two RBI and a run scored. Freshman Alejandro Martinez (Cranston, RI) batted 2-4 with two doubles, three RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Ray Aponte (East Providence, RI) also tallied three RBI while going 1-2 with a homerun and two runs scored. Sophomore Kyle McCann (Coventry, RI) was 2-4 on the day, two singles with two runs scored and a stolen base. Freshman Anthony Ramos (Cranston, RI) registered one hit while going 1-2, a double with two runs scored and one RBI. Sophomore co-captain Nick D'Ambra (Coventry, RI) tallied a 1-5 performance, one single with two runs scored, one RBI and a stolen base. Rounding off the offense was freshman David Meech (Douglas, MA) as he went 1-5, a double with one RBI and one run scored.

The CCRI Knights baseball team will next be in action on Monday, May 13th at 11:00 a.m. as they face off with the Northern Essex Community College Knights for the Region XXI Championship at the New England Baseball complex located in Northborough, MA. Northern Essex would have to win two times to be Champions and CCRI only has to win one time to be crowned Champions.
