Lady Knights Overcome Orange County 65-42!

Warwick, R.I. – February 11, 2019: The CCRI Lady Knights Basketball team hosted the Colts of Orange County Community from Middletown, NY for a game Saturday afternoon. The Lady Knights defeated the Colts 65-42. With the victory CCRI improves to 9-11 on the season.

This was the second meeting between the Lady Knights and colts with CCRI defeating Orange 57-51on November 13th at Orange in Middletown, NY. CCRI took an early advantage in the first quarter paced by Co-Captains Jada Littlejohn (Providence, RI) and Waleska Kelly (Pawtucket, RI) who scored six points and four points respectively for the Lady Knights. Their efforts helped CCRI to a 13-8 lead after one quarter.

In the second quarter Orange County fought back to tie the game led by Diamond Weeks who scored seven of her 14 first half point in the quarter as the Colts outscored CCRI 18-13 to tie the score 26-26 at halftime. The Lady Knights kept pace with Orange due to the efforts of Olivia Batastini (Providence, RI) who scored six points on two 3-pointers and Co-Captain Kat Raposo (Warwick, RI) who scored seven points in the quarter.

In the third quarter Raposo and Batastini continued to pace the Lady Knights as they looked to regain their lead. Raposo poured in eight points in the quarter including a 3-pointer and Batastini added five points as CCRI took a 40-37 lead with one quarter left to play.

The fourth quarter was dominated by the Lady Knights as they erupted for 25 points while holding Orange to just five. Olivia Batastini drained three 3-pointers to score nine points while Faith Fahnbulleh (Providence, RI) scored six points while Jada Littlejohn and Kat Raposo had five apiece. The balanced scoring allowed CCRI to pull away and win by the final score of 65-42.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Olivia Batastini with 20 points including five 3-pointers with three assists and two steals. Co-Captain Kat Raposo also scored 20 points with six rebounds, three steals and two assists. Also helping CCRI was Co-Captain Waleska Kelly with six points a game-high 17 rebounds with six steals and three assists. Rounding out the top performers for CCRI was Co-Captain Jada Littlejohn with 11 points eight assists, six rebounds, four steals and four blocked shots, Faith Fahnbulleh with eight points and 12 rebounds and Co-Captain Tatyana Correia (Cranston, RI) with eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.

The Lady Knights are back in action Sunday when they to Sullivan Community College in Loch Sheldrake, NY for a game with a 2pm tip-off.
