Warwick, R.I. – February 4, 2019: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team traveled to New Rochelle, NY to play the very talented Division I Mustangs of Monroe College on Saturday. The Lady Knights were a bit overmatched by the Division I powerhouse and fell 93-52. With the loss CCRI falls to 8-11 on the season while Monroe improves to 15-6.

The Lady Knights knew that this would be their toughest match-up of the year as the Mustangs of Monroe College are the only Division I program on their schedule. True to form the Mustangs bucked out of the gates with a 3-point barrage in the first quarter that the Lady Knights could not keep up with. Monroe made five 30-pointers in the first quarter including two from Aneisha Lyons and two from Andrea Young. CCRI sank three 3-pointers themselves but were not shooting as efficiently and their misses became easy baskets for the Mustangs. After one quarter Monroe had built their lead to 13 points with the score 32-19 and had no intention on looking back.

In the second quarter the scoring pace definitely slowed down which favored CCRI but Monroe still built upon their lead. Co-Captain Jada Littlejohn (Providence, RI) led the Lady Knights in the quarter scoring five of their 11 points which included a 3-pointer but Monroe answered with 16 points to take a 48-30 lead into the halftime break.

In the third quarter Monroe once again took over the game outscoring CCRI 24-7 to put the game out of reach for all intents and purposes. After three quarters Monroe led 72-37. In the final quarter the Lady Knights got three 3-pointers from Jordan Northup (South Kingstown, RI) but it was not enough as Monroe once again outscored CCRI 21-15 to win by the final score of 93-52.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights was freshman Jordan Northup with a career-high 15 points on five 3-pointers with two rebounds, a steal and an assist. Co-Captain Jada Littlejohn had seven points, eight assist, a team-high 12 rebounds and two steals. Co-Captain Kat Raposo (Warwick, RI) had nine points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Freshman Olivia Batastini-Pallister (Providence, RI) scored nine points including three 3-pointers, two steals and an assist and Co-Captain Waleska Kelly (Pawtucket, RI) battled through foul trouble but still added seven points and seven rebounds.

The next game for the Lady Knights will be this Saturday the 9th when they host the Colts of Orange County Community College from Middletown, NY for a game set to tip-off at 12noon.
