Warwick, R.I. – February 21, 2019: The CCRI Lady Knights basketball team hosted the No. 1 ranked (NJCAA DIII poll) Warriors of Massasoit Community college from Brockton, MA to the Cullen Fieldhouse for a game on Wednesday evening. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Massasoit but their gym was unplayable so CCRI stepped-up to host the game. The Lady Knights lost to the Warriors 71-42. With the loss CCRI falls to 11-12 on the season and 6-3 in Region XXI play.

This was a rematch of a game played in November of the first semester that saw the Warriors prevail 77-47 also at the Cullen Fieldhouse at CCRI. The Lady Knights were looking to reverse their fortunes from their first meeting and garner a victory in their final regular season game. In the first quarter CCRI played very well and stayed very close but trailed 14-10 after one quarter. Leading the way for the Lady Knights in the first was Co-Captain Kat Raposo (Warwick, RI) with five points and Olivia Batastini (Providence, RI) with five points including a 3-pointer.

In the second quarter Massasoit kicked their game into another gear that the Lady Knights could not keep up with as the Warriors erupted for 29 points while holding CCRI to just four. Massasoit went into halftime leading 43-15.

In the third quarter the Lady Knights bounced back and began to show some fight as they outscored Massasoit 17-11 to cut the Warriors lead to 22 points with the score 54-32 Massasoit. Once again it was Batastini and Raposo leading the way. Batastini scored six points on two 3-pointers and Raposo added four points. In the fourth quarter Massasoit once again kicked it up a notch and cruised to the 71-42 victory.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights was Co-Captain Kat Raposo with a game-high 21 points with three rebounds, an assist and a steal. Olivia Batastini scored 14 points including three 3-pointers, seven assists and a steal. Faith Fahnbulleh (Providence, RI) played well though she was in foul trouble all night she still added two points and a game-high 11 rebounds and a steal. Co-Captain Waleska Kelly (Pawtucket, RI) had two points, eight rebounds, six assists and three blocked shots and Co-Captain Jada Littlejohn (Providence, RI) added 10 rebounds, three assists and a steal.

The Lady Knights next games will be part of the Region XV Tournament held at Sullivan County Community College in Loch Sheldrake, NY March 2nd and 3rd. The No. 3 seed Lady Knights (11-12) will face No. 2 seed Colts of Orange County Community College (15-9) at 12noon Saturday March 2nd.
