Warwick, R.I. – February 28, 2019: The CCRI Knights men's basketball team heads into the Region XXI Tournament on March 2nd as the No. 1 seed. They will take on the No. 4 seed; Gateway Community College at 4:00 p.m. for a chance to take a seat in the championship game on the following day.

CCRI's semi-final opponents Gateway played against the No. 5 seed Springfield Technical Community College on Wednesday the 27th. Gateway emerged victorious 94-86. The other play-down game of that evening was between the No. 3 seed Bunker Hill Community College and the No. 6 seed Massasoit Community College. Bunker Hill won that game 69-57.

The bracket is finalized for the semi-finals with No. 1 CCRI playing against No. 4 Gateway on Saturday, March 2nd at 4:00 p.m. and the 6:00 p.m. game set with No. 2 Bristol Community College and No. 3 Bunker Hill. The championship game will take place on Sunday, March 3rd at 2:00 p.m. and provides the winner with a trip to the NJCAA DIII National Tournament. Both the semi-finals and the championship games will be held at Bunker Hill located at 250 New Rutherford Avenue, Boston, MA 02129.

The Knights have an exciting past couple of meetings with the Gateway Community College Lions. The first meeting of the season came back on November 29th and went into overtime where the Knights eventually pulled away 87-75 winners on the road in New Haven, CT. The second meeting at home on February 5th went far more smoothly for CCRI and they walked away with an 86-58 victory.

The second semi-final game will pit the No. 2 seeded Bristol Community College Bayhawks against the No. 3 seeded and tournament hosts Bunker Hill Community College Bulldogs. Shall the Knights win their semi-final game, either potential opponent offers up a tantalizing challenge for the Region XXI Title.

Bunker Hill faced off with the Knights twice during the 2018-19 season with both teams taking one victory away. The first meeting came on November 20th away in Boston, MA where the Bulldogs came out on top 72-63. The second matchup came on January 26th when the then No. 5 nationally ranked bulldogs came to Warwick, RI. The close battle went the way of the Knights in the end 76-70.

Against Bristol, CCRI lost the first match up back on December 13th away at Fall River, MA with the Bayhawks holding a No. 7 national ranking, 99-95. The reverse fixture on February 13th saw both teams earning national rankings, CCRI at No. 7 and Bristol at No. 4. An intense battle down the stretch ensued and the Knights were able to push through and emerge 89-85 victors.

The Knights hold quite a bit of momentum going into the Region XXI tournament with a No. 5 National ranking, No. 1 regional ranking and holding on a 17-game winning streak. This postseason will however, be the team's biggest test to date.
