Lady Knights Sweep Orange County in 3-game Series!

Warwick, R.I. – April 15, 2019: the CCRI Lady Knights softball team traveled to Orange county Community College in Middletown, NY to play the Colts in ta three game series. The series was originally to be a doubleheader on Saturday at 12noon and 2pm and then a third game Sunday at 11am. However, due to the inclement weather the teams played a single game Saturday at 7pm evening under the lights and then a doubleheader Sunday at 10am and 12noon. The Lady Knights won under Saturday Night Lights 6-1 then completed the sweep Sunday defeating the Colts 3-2 and 10-6. With the three victories CCRI improves to 8-5 on the season.

Game 1: CCRI- 6 Orange County CC- 1

In the circle for the Lady Knights in the first game of the series was Tri-Captain Hannah Caliri (Pawtucket, RI) and she pitched masterfully. Caliri pitched seven dominant innings allowing just one run on four hits while tying a career-high by striking out 12 Orange County batters to pick up her third victory of the year. It was the third time in her career that Caliri struck out 12 batters she accomplished the feat last year versus Suffolk county and earlier this year versus Northeastern's club team. Hannah also helped her own cause at the plate with an RBI double.

The Lady Knights got onto the scoreboard first in the third inning with one run before the Colts would answer with their only run of the day in the bottom of the fourth. The Lady Knights would tack on three runs in the sixth and two runs in the seventh to win by the comfortable 6-1 margin.

At the plate for the Lady Knights Mackenzie Doyle (Glocester, RI) led the way with three doubles and two runs scored followed by Alexis LeBelle (Warwick, RI) who added two hits and an RBI. Also helping the CCRI attack was Sophomore Tri-Captain Maddie McDonald (East Providence, RI) with two hits including a double with a run scored. Tri-Captain Sam Muller (North Stonington, CT) had a double, an RBI and a run scored and freshman catcher Hannah Northup (Warwick, RI) added a beautiful bunt and utilized her speed to force an errant throw that caused the Colts to allow her to score and she also had another run scored.

Game 2: CCRI- 3 Orange County- 2

In the circle for the Lady Knights in the second game of the series was freshman Dayna Jackvony (Cumberland, RI). Jackvony was excellent throwing seven very strong innings allowing just two runs, only one of them earned on five hits, walking one and striking out one. Dayna gave up runs in the first and second innings but CCRI answered with three runs in the top of the third inning. Jackvony held the Colts scoreless over the final five frames to secure the hard fought 3-2 victory for the Lady Knights. This was Jackvony's fourth victory of the year.

Leading the way offensively for the Lady Knights was Hannah Northup with three hits and two RBIs followed by Victoria Passaretti (East Greenwich, RI) who added two hits and an RBI. Also helping CCRI was Tri-Captain Sam Muller with two hits and a run scored and Mackenzie Doyle with three hits and a run scored.

Game 3: CCRI- 10 Orange County- 6

In the circle for the Lady Knights in the final game of the series was Sam Muller. Muller did not fare to well. She threw three innings allowing four runs on four hits, walking one and striking out one but did not factor into the decision. Muller was relieved by Dayna Jackvony who threw one inning allowing two runs with only one of them earned on two hits and a walk but also did not factor into the decision. Relieving Jackvony was Hannah Caliri who once again established her pitching dominance by shutting down the Colts overt eh final three innings allowing no runs on two hits while striking out five Colts to earn her fourth victory of the year.

The Lady Knights' offense was on point scoring 10 runs on 14 hits. CCRI scored three runs in the first inning followed by single runs in the second, third and fourth before adding three more runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth and were held scoreless in the seventh inning after scoring 10 runs which was more than the six that the Colts mustered. They were led by Hannah Caliri who had three hits including a double with an RBI and a runs scored and Sam Muller who had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Maddie McDonald also added three hits with a run scored and Alexis LeBelle had two hits including a double with an RBI and a run scored. The offense did not stop there as Hannah Northup had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored and Mackenzie Doyle added two, hits, a walk and three runs scored.

The next games for the Lady Knights will be Tuesday the 16th when they host the Lynx of New Hampshire Tech for a doubleheader at Winslow Park beginning at 3:30pm
