About the Wellness Fair 2013

The public is invited to learn more about the issues affecting their health at the eighth annual Community College of Rhode Island Wellness Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, at the Knight Campus, 400 East Ave., Warwick. Admission and provided services are free.

More than 40 displays will be set up in the Student Dining Commons area, offering information and demonstrations on issues ranging from diabetes and cancer prevention to Jazzercise, fitness and nutrition. Check your blood pressure and gather resources to improve your overall health and well-being.

A diverse range of organizations will be represented such as the American Lung Association, Enos Chiropractic Center, the URI Master Gardeners and much more. Participants can take part in blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol screenings conducted by professionals from Roger Williams Medical Center. UnitedHealthcare will offer derma scans and BMI tests.

The Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation will bring its Mobile Resource and Wellness Center to the CCRI Wellness Fair. The center is a residential-style RV used to promote breast health, nutrition, fitness and wellness programs. Skilled martial artists from Tri-Force Mixed Martial Arts will perform demonstrations.

Several CCRI organizations and departments also will be represented, including Dental Health and the Opticianry Program. Students in the college’s Therapeutic Massage program will give massage treatments to attendees free of charge.

The event is sponsored by the CCRI Wellness Committee, whose mission is to provide access to information and services on leading health issues. For more information, visit www.ccri.edu/wellness.
