Student Veterans Offices Fall 2012

Here at the Community College of Rhode Island we are dedicated and determined to meet and exceed the needs of our student Veteran population. Beginning in the fall 2012 semester CCRI will operate a Student Veterans Office at each campus. This office will be the first stop for all new and returning student Veterans. The SVO office will assist students in the navigation of college resources, scholarship/work-study opportunities, Veteran benefits, enrollment and the completion of their academic goals. CCRI is the host to nearly 600 Veterans, active-duty, National Guardsman, Reservists and military dependents. We are excited to do all that we can to improve the overall experience for our student Veterans’ education experience. Our mission is to ensure student success at CCRI from enrollment through graduation and onto further higher education or gaining meaningful employment. Every semester the SVO has opportunities for selected Veterans to be involved in; part-time VA work-study positions, “scholarship for service” awards/stipends, “mission continues fellow” positions, mentorship/tutor volunteers and Student Veterans Organization positions. CCRI SVO Overview:

The Student Veterans Organization (SVO) was built by fellow student Veterans to provide students with the vehicles and assistance needed in the transition from combat, to college. We recognize and understand the challenges and obstacles faced by students from enrolling and class selection, to VA benefits and financial aid. When coupled with the visible and invisible wounds of war, a college degree seems to be an elusive goal for men and women returning from military service. The SVO is building veteran groups for camaraderie, mentorship and professional networking in each campus of the Community College of Rhode Island to assist in making those goals easily attainable.
