CCRI Student Government to host 9/11 remembrance

The Community College of Rhode Island’s Knight Campus Student Government invites the public to a 9/11 Remembrance honoring first responders and veterans at 8:15 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 11, in the Great Hall at the campus, 400 East Ave., Warwick.

Attending the event will be Lt. Cmdr. Kasim Yarn, Rhode Island’s first director of veterans affairs; Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian; veterans representatives from the offices of U.S. Sens. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and U.S. Rep. Jim Langevin; House Minority Leader Patricia Morgan of District 26; the Rhode Island Patriot Guard Riders; and CCRI President Meghan Hughes and members of the college administration.

Warwick Fire Chief James McLaughlin, assistant chiefs James Kenney and Edward Hannon and firefighters from Engine 9 will toll the bells, and CCRI Fine Arts student Janine Anthony will perform taps as victims’ names scroll on a screen. The event will conclude with a wreath-laying ceremony.
