Public invited to view CCRI documentary film
May 22, 2015
Members of the public are invited to screen a historical film looking at the early years of Rhode Island Junior College/the Community College of Rhode Island at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, at the Greenwich Odeum, 59 Main St., East Greenwich.
"Miracle on Promenade" covers the time period from 1964 to 1980 and was created as part of the college's 50th anniversary celebration. It includes historical footage and interviews from students, faculty and staff who experienced the early days of Rhode Island Junior College in an old factory building in Providence, the growth that led to the construction of the Knight and Flanagan campuses, the tenure of four presidents and the eventual name change.
Some of those who are interviewed include Lila Sapinsley, former chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of State Colleges, who died in December; Vin Cullen, former director of Athletics; Lela Morgan, former vice president for Academic Affairs; and Anne Riccitelli, a member of the first graduating class in 1966.
The event is sponsored by the CCRI Foundation. General admission costs $10 and student admission costs $5. Tickets may be purchased at the Greenwich Odeum box office or online. Any proceeds from the event will help fund student book scholarships.
