Public invited to CCRI documentary
April 3, 2015
Members of the public are invited to the premiere screening of a historical film looking at the early years of Rhode Island Junior College/the Community College of Rhode Island at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 10, in the Bobby Hackett Theater at the CCRI Knight Campus, 400 East Ave., Warwick.
“Miracle on Promenade,” which will be screened as part of the college’s annual Professional Development Day for faculty and staff, covers the time period from 1964 to 1980 and was created as part of the college’s 50th anniversary celebration. It includes historical footage and interviews from students, faculty and staff who experienced the early days of Rhode Island Junior College in an old factory building in Providence, the growth that led to the construction of the Knight Campus, the tenure of four presidents and the eventual name change.
Some of those who are interviewed include Lila Sapinsley, former chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of State Colleges, who died in December; Vin Cullen, former director of Athletics; Lela Morgan, former vice president for Academic Affairs; and Anne Riccitelli, a member of the first graduating class in 1966.
