Public invited to State Police talk regarding cybersecurity next week
April 15, 2015
The Community College of Rhode Island Emergency Management and Homeland Security Club will welcome speakers from the Rhode Island State Police Computer Crimes Unit to discuss the threat of cyber-attacks next week.
The public is welcome to the presentation, which will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, in Room 1040 at the Knight Campus, 400 East Ave., Warwick. Light snacks and beverages will be provided.
Club member Mike Frederick, who is finishing his Homeland Security certificate at the college after recently graduating with his associate degree in Computer Science, said the presentation is applicable to many of us in our digital age.
“Cybersecurity affects us all, whether we realize it or not. Whatever we’re involved in, if we’re doing any transactions at all on the computer, we have a risk of loss or theft. There are many other insights that professionals can offer that students might not have the knowledge of,” he said.
