CCRI Flanagan Campus in Lincoln evacuated

The CCRI Flanagan Campus in Lincoln has been evacuated this afternoon after a professor received an envelope containing an unknown white powder. Campus police contacted Lincoln Police and Fire departments, which are on the scene. Pending the results of their investigation, a decision soon will be made about whether to close the building for the remainder of the day. 2:05 p.m., Friday, March 8
Classes at the Flanagan Campus in Lincoln have been canceled today, Friday, March 8. The campus is closed until further notice.
Students, faculty, staff and visitors who left personal belongings on site may not enter the campus to retrieve them at this time.
A hazardous materials team is en route to campus to assess the situation.
3:45 p.m., Friday March 8
Officials have determined that the white powder is a non-hazardous, sugar-based product. A sample will be sent to the Rhode Island Department of Health for further testing.
Around 5 p.m., students, faculty and staff will be allowed to retrieve any belongings that were left in the building at the time of the evacuation.
All classes and activities will resume as scheduled on Saturday, March 9.
